"Two heads are better than one." - Dosalmas proverb, "borrowed" from humanity.
Race name: Dosalmas
Attributes: Dosalmas are a unique set of individuals...because they are actually two souls embedded in one body. They a genetic anomaly, two individuals somehow merged into one in such a way that only their minds, in the form of schizophrenia, are truly separate entities.
Physically, they're almost identical to humans, with little improvement in terms of physical aptitude, except for subtle differences in symmetry. Having two souls in one body affects the genetic make-up, and so Dosalmas will look from afar like any other human, but when studied up close, will be found to have disproportionate features.
Dosalmas are, more often than not, aware of their "partners". The disruption in soul traffic is a random effect, meaning that any two types of spirit will be melded together. There could be two new souls, or a new with an old one, a kind soul with a cruel, etc. Depending on the souls, they may or may not work together in tasks, and there are times when souls are so at odds that they will seek dominance over one another. When that happens the schizophrenia will peak, both minds aware but only one in complete control, unless that mind is forced to retreat.
It is rumored that some of the famous geniuses in history were actually Dosalmas, but of course, that's only a rumor...
History: Dosalmas were first discovered in the Hispanic countries. Their name is actually a combination of the words for "two" and "soul". They are a direct result of the influx of dark energy into our world, which began affecting soul traffic into the physical plane. It was a rare occurrence for such individuals to come into existence, but with increasing birth & survival rates, Dosalmas slowly became an established species.
Strengths:
Harmony - When the souls in a Dosalmas are compatible, it allows for them to learn at twice the rate of the average human, the two minds taking in the information and "comparing notes" to develop the most effective outcomes quickly and efficiently.
Rebuff - Harmonious Dosalmas are naturally resistant, but not immune, to mental suggestions and attacks. Have two minds in one body comes in handy when trying to snap out of it or fight back.
Weaknesses:
Discord - The two souls of Dosalmas are a double-edged sword. For every Harmonious Dosalmas, there are Discordant Dosalmas. The two souls will clash at every opportunity, making it difficult for them to accomplish anything. It is these that are most often discovered by society and placed in asylums, where human science attempts to explain why they cannot be convinced there is only one.
Submission - Just as Harmony leads to Rebuff, Discordant Dosalmas as more susceptible to mental suggestions and attacks, the two minds constant bickering leaving them unable to mount a solid defense.
Special:
Potential - Rare Dosalmas show the capacity to be proficient in more than one supernatural talent. This of course is directly related to the soul types. The chances of two talented souls, of course, are rare. Roughly 1 in every 1,000 Dosalmas have this potential. When Harmonious and properly trained, they can become true paragons of their talents. Likewise, Potential Discordant Dosalmas will become reckless avatars of their talents, rough and almost impossible to train or even use without extreme mental manipulation.
