If it's Victorian, I'm going to go with recurves. But since it's the AOA, and you need to put holes through things, I'm going to suggest the compound bows. The kinds with pulleys and stuff. Depends on how purist/strong your character is; if they are strong enough, they can use a recurve no problem. Compound bows are for weak humans like me. Both are fully capable of shooting an arrow at over 100 meters per second, the compound bow just makes it easier. ^^

I like bows too. 'Tis good to see them in here. I definitely prefer recurves to those dumb looking modern compounds, but meh, I suppose they might be... better... But longbows still beat them on the coolness factor.

I do enjoy longbows. Course I'm not a bow-wiz, so I wouldn't know much on the subject.
Also, is the compound-bow a type of crossbow? O.o [/fail]
